December brought in a rush of pre-Christmas orders and I spent the first weeks of January completing commissions that hadn't been a priority. My Landscape commission was presented to a delighted recipient - the subject was very personal to him, so hopefully he'll get many hours of enjoyment from it.
I'm continuing to work in oils inbetween portrait commissions as I'm working towards an exhibition in September, and just love colour! Inspired by the SkyArts TV series 'Portrait Artist of the Year' I plan to start experimenting with a few painted portraits to find a style and technique that I like.
I've had two international commissions this month and one in particular brought me the greatest pleasure so far. The sybling-subjects Samuel, Isabelle and Bianca were captured in such a fun, natural pose and all three just exude happiness. They were also naturally framed by the window of the tree-house they were photographed in. I loved the way the reflections in Bianca's glasses looked caotic but seem to add to her natural sparkle. Samuel doesn't seem to mind in the slighest that his little sister has almost pushed him out of the frame, he seems quietly confident to take the back seat. As for Miss Isabelle she just oozes a care-free playfulness. It's always a pleasure to do a portrait that captures a moment, but even more so to complete a work that reflects such personality.
